[ AI PROGRESS / POLITICAL BRAKES / TRENCHES ]
R/ACC
RETARDED ACCELERATION
EFFECTIVE ACCELERATION
JUST FOUND THE BRAKES.
Silicon Valley got e/acc.
Washington might give us r/acc.
Acceleration with no intelligence requirement.

BRAKES DETECTEDUNDERSTANDING OPTIONAL01 /E/ACC HAD ONE JOB
e/acc is having a major moment.
The idea is bigger than a ticker.
e/acc — effective accelerationism — became one of the defining ideas of modern AI and tech optimism.
The basic thesis: technological progress creates new capabilities and economic growth. Artificial constraints should not unnecessarily prevent that progress.
AI became one of the clearest battlegrounds.
E/ACC WANTED TO
REMOVE THE BRAKES.
SOMEONE JUST PUT THEM
BACK ON THE TABLE.
02 /THEN THE MIDTERMS HAPPENED
THEN AMERICA
VOTED.
Democrats won control of both the House and Senate in the 2026 midterms. Less than a day later, an AI-policy signal appeared.
Democratic Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari was reported calling for a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of the industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.
That is the collision. Technological optimism meets political resistance.
E/ACC SPENT YEARS ASKING
HOW TO ACCELERATE AI.
WASHINGTON IS ASKING
WHERE IT SHOULD STOP.
03 /THE BAN ARTIFICIAL SUPERINTELLIGENCE ACT
THIS ISN’T
JUST A TWEET.
Before the election, lawmakers had already introduced the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act of 2026.
The proposed legislation would create a regulatory framework around advanced AI and seeks to prohibit artificial superintelligence. The House version, H.R. 10538, was introduced on September 24, 2026.
Introduction is not passage. A proposal is not an AI ban.
It has not become law.
Status as of November 5, 2026.

R/ACC
RETARDED ACCELERATION
05 /BUT THERE’S ANOTHER PROBLEM
THE NAME WORKS
WAY TOO WELL.
The political meaning explains why r/acc exists now.
The trenches explain why the name is perfect.
Because technological capability may be accelerating.
Human judgment is not necessarily following it.
NO BRAKES.
NO RISK MANAGEMENT.
JUST BUY INCREASINGLY
RIDICULOUS MEMES
AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.
06 /R/ACC IS HOW WE BEHAVE IN THE TRENCHES
People buy coins whose lore they do not understand because they are afraid of being late.
People buy “technology” coins without checking whether the technology actually exists.
A new word starts trending and there is already a token for it.
The trenches do not wait for understanding.
Understanding creates latency. FOMO does not.
A project has a diagram?
BULLISH.
It says “AI agent”?
BULLISH.
Nobody knows what the agent does?
Too late. Someone already bought it.
r/acc IS NOT A THEORY
ABOUT THE TRENCHES.
r/acc IS A DESCRIPTION
OF THEM.
07 /THE CURRENT META
EVERY COIN HAS
TECHNOLOGY NOW.
The technology can be real.
The technology can be useful.
The technology can also be completely misunderstood by the people buying the token.
That is exactly the point. More technological capability does not automatically create more rational market participants.
Sometimes it simply gives irrational market participants more things to buy.
EVERY DAY:
> NEW LAUNCHPAD
> LAUNCHPAD FOR LAUNCHPADS
> NEW FEE ROUTING
> CREATOR REWARDS
> NEW AGENTS
> AGENT LAUNCHERS
> NEW AUTOMATION
> TOOLS BUILT ON YESTERDAY’S TOOLS
tools for tools for tools...
THE TECH CAN BE EFFECTIVE.
THE BUYER DOESN’T HAVE TO BE.
08 /THE R/ACC MACHINE

LOOK AT HIM.
A gear.
A fan.
A toaster.
A human head.
Nobody knows why these things are connected.
Nobody asked whether they should be connected.
But the machine exists.
Someone probably called it technology.
Someone else probably bought the token.
That is r/acc.
09 /E/ACC VS R/ACC
| E/ACC | R/ACC |
|---|---|
| effective acceleration | retarded acceleration |
| technological progress | political brakes |
| increased capability | AI pause |
| AI development | regulation |
| remove unnecessary constraints | ban superintelligence? |
| optimism about technology | FOMO |
| Silicon Valley | the trenches |
| “How far can this go?” | “Did anyone read this before buying?” |
SAME ACCELERATOR.
VERY DIFFERENT PROBLEMS.
10 /TWO DEFINITIONS. ONE TICKER.
01 / THE ACCELERATION
RETARDED
ACCELERATION
The acceleration itself gets restrained.
AI development meets political resistance.
Pause. Regulation. Limits.
02 / THE PARTICIPANTS
RETARDED
ACCELERATION
The acceleration continues.
The humans participating in it remain completely irrational.
FOMO. No risk management.
Tech coins nobody understands.
BOTH LEAD TO r/acc.
For years, e/acc asked what happens when technology becomes more capable.
2026 may have given us the opposite question: what happens when politics decides the acceleration has gone far enough?
And meanwhile the trenches continue doing exactly what they always do.
Buying first. Reading later. Understanding optional.
The machines become smarter.
The market does not.
EFFECTIVE ACCELERATION.
MEET RETARDED
ACCELERATION.
R/ACC.
Acceleration with no intelligence requirement.
